Dortmund has officially announced that Nuri Sahin will be the club’s new head coach following the departure of Edin Terzic.
According to Dortmund’s announcement: “Nuri Sahin will be the new head coach of Dortmund. This decision was made following a meeting between sporting directors Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl today.
The Turkish strategist has signed a contract for three seasons, until June 2027, and will take over the role left by Edin Terzic.”
Regarding his appointment, Nuri Sahin stated: “I am honored to become Dortmund’s head coach. I want to thank the club’s management for their trust.
I am very excited to start this new role at Dortmund. I, along with the team, will strive to achieve the best possible results.”
During his playing career, Turkish international Sahin played for Dortmund in two different periods. He made a total of 274 appearances for the German club and scored 26 goals. Sahin is currently serving as an assistant coach at Dortmund.
Previously, Dortmund announced that Edin Terzic had departed the club after agreeing to terminate his contract. Terzic resigned from his position and requested Dortmund to facilitate his departure promptly.
Following discussions, the Ruhr club agreed to Terzic’s request. Terzic led Dortmund to the 2023/24 Champions League final, where they lost 0-2 to Real Madrid. In the 2022/23 season, he also helped the team secure the runner-up position in the Bundesliga.
During his tenure, Terzic won one title, the DFB-Pokal in 2021. He leaves the club where he had a long association, having served as a youth team assistant, technical director, interim coach, and head coach. The 41-year-old also had a stint in England as an assistant to Slaven Bilic at West Ham from 2015 to 2017.
