Mikel Arteta’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of this season, and the club wants to secure the Spanish manager for the long term.
Arteta began managing Arsenal in December 2019 and has gradually transformed the team, although they have not been able to win the Premier League in the past two seasons, finishing second behind Man City.
According to Sky Sports, Arteta is expected to commit to a long-term future with Arsenal. The relationship between the Spanish coach, Sporting Director Edu, and the club’s management is very strong.
There are opinions that contract renewal talks are not seen as “urgent” or “necessary at the moment.” Arteta has stated that the contract extension will happen naturally, with his current focus being on “fine-tuning the squad” for the season.
Once Arteta feels the squad adjustments are in place, he will extend his contract with the club. Overall, the 42-year-old manager does not intend to leave Emirates, so Arsenal need not worry despite the countdown on their current agreement.
Earlier this year, there were rumors that Arteta might return to Barca to manage the club where he trained at the famous La Masia academy from the age of 15. Arteta admitted he “always thought” he would return to his home country “one day.”
In the past, Arteta never had the chance to break into Barca’s first team but did have a season with Real Sociedad before moving to England. Since taking over Arsenal, Arteta has achieved impressive results, winning 141 of 232 matches and only losing 57.
Arteta has led Arsenal to several trophies, including the FA Cup in 2020 and two Community Shields. Recently, Arsenal won their opening match by defeating Wolves 2-0 in the Premier League 2024/25.
